Trick-Or-Treat Without the Sweets: Alternatives to Candy Kids Will Love

Kids trick-or-treating for candy alternatives

Halloween is all about fun costumes, spooky decorations, and, of course, trick-or-treating. But if you’re looking to offer something a little different this year, why not try non-candy alternatives? There are plenty of treats that can be just as exciting (and much healthier) than the usual sugar bombs. If you’d like to explore some not-so-creepy alternatives to candy this year, continue reading!

1. Glowsticks and Bracelets

What child (or adult for that matter) doesn’t love something that glows in the dark? Glow sticks, bracelets, or necklaces are perfect for lighting up the night while keeping things festive. Plus, they help keep trick-or-treaters visible as they traipse through yards and pumpkin patches in the neighborhood. It’s a win-win!

2. Stickers and Temporary Tattoos

Stickers and temporary tattoos are always a hit with little gals and ghouls. They’re available in countless designs and sizes from cute little pumpkins to sign-sized ghosts and superheroes. There are plenty of excellent options on craft sites and specialty stores. There, you can shop around and find the perfect selections for everyone in the family.

3. Bubbles and Bubble Wands

There probably isn’t a child (living or zombie) that doesn’t love bubbles. Hand out mini bottles of the soapy solution for a treat that’s fun and mostly mess-free. Kids will enjoy blowing bubbles or waving their wands as they go from house to house. This simple swap can add a bit of magic to Halloween night.

4. Silly Straws

Silly straws are bendy and loopy and come in a variety of frightfully delightful colors. And while it might seem like you’re offering your child a way to play with their drinks, you’re secretly also protecting their teeth. Straws pull sugary concoctions and potions away from their teeth, reducing the effects of soda or Halloween punch.

5. Slime or Thinking Putty

What else could serve as a stress-reliever, distraction, sensory toy, and on-theme addition to your child’s trick-or-treat pail? Slime and putty offer a fantastic non-candy alternative for Halloween! These gooey, squishy, and stretchable toys are great for kids of all ages and come in a variety of colors and textures. There are even specialty stores online that may sell high-quality Halloween goop for everyone!

Offering non-candy alternatives for Halloween is a fantastic way to make the holiday inclusive and enjoyable for everyone, especially those with allergies or dietary restrictions. So, consider handing out some of these treats to put a fun twist on trick-or-treating and make your house the talk of the graveyard this year.
