Your child’s mouth will go through many changes as it grows and develops, and it’s important that it receives the care it needs to stay healthy. While oral health problems can be unnoticeable at first, they can become major issues that require costly treatments if allowed to progress. While teaching your child to brush and floss properly is crucial, they’ll still need to see Dr. Kalluri regularly to keep their smile in tip-top shape, and it’s best to bring them to appointments at least twice a year. Your child’s baby teeth play a key role in guiding their adult teeth into their proper positions, and oral infections can have lifelong consequences if left untreated. Bringing your child in for regular dental visits can prevent painful dental emergencies that require costly restorative treatments, saving your family time, suffering, and money. Poor oral health has also been linked to several serious overall health issues like diabetes and heart disease, and regular dental appointments may help your child avoid such problems later on.
During your child’s dental checkup, Dr. Kalluri will take special care to thoroughly examine their teeth, gums, overall bite, and existing dental work while screening for oral cancer. She may take X-rays to detect internal problems and will create an appropriate treatment plan if any are detected. She will also review and update your child’s medical history and list of medications to make sure she can determine the best course of treatment. If you have any questions about your child’s treatment or how you can improve their oral health care at home, Dr. Kalluri will be more than happy to answer them.
Even the best possible at-home oral hygiene regimen won’t be able to properly clean some parts of your child’s mouth. That’s why Dr. Kalluri will use special instruments to remove plaque and tartar that have accumulated between your child’s teeth and along their gumline. This will reduce their risk of tooth decay and gum disease while preventing chronic bad breath. Once this is completed, your child’s teeth will be flossed to remove food debris from between the teeth and polished to clear away minor surface stains. Your child may also receive a fluoride treatment to strengthen their enamel and prevent cavities from forming.
