Contaminated particles can become airborne during several different dental procedures, which is why having an aerosol suction device in our practice is crucial so you have a safe dentist nearby that you can visit. When high-powered instruments, like dental polishers and handheld, spinning gadgets are placed in the mouth, they produce aerosols, which are a mix of air and water from the device and saliva. Without being suctioned, the aerosols can cross distances up to 20 feet and can remain suspended in the air for hours, only going away once they’ve evaporated. The OCTOdent extraoral aerosol suction device is an advanced instrument that is comprised of a long, extendable arm, hospital-grade disinfection device, 6-stage UltraHEPA filtration, and a small suction piece that can remove aerosols from the air within six to eight inches. It contains a special, 20-watt UV-C germicidal lamp that destroys harmful bacteria and viruses, like COVID-19 and the flu, and cleanses the air you breathe in during your treatment, making our office safer for both patients and professionals.
